Rock Ramp

Fyke Net

36" Northern Pike

In 2005, I worked with several agencies to put in rock ramp (fish passage structure) below a lake level control structure (dam). In order to determine if the structure was actually passing fish during high spring flows, we put in a fyke net just upstream of the dam for about a week in late March. I think we missed the Northern Pike run, however, over 11 different species of fish (both strong swimmers and jumpers and weak swimmers and jumpers) made it over the dam. The largest fish was a 36" Northern Pike and the most suprising was a 21" walleye. Over 201 White Suckers were also netted. No fish were harmed during the documentation of what made it over the dam!

Bummer!

I had to change the name of my blog, since those that don't know me professionally got the wrong impression! I love and beleive in the work I do for our natural resources. To me, it's not really a job. I just happen to get paid for it! However, I like having a life beyond my job, whether it is spending quality time with my family, having a couple of beers, having good times with my friends, going to see some great music, working on the 59 with my husband, or what not! Here is to the well-rounded, variety show of my life!

Chappy's Birthday Dinner

For Chappy's Birthday we made a 7 course dinner for him and Mary and his guests of 2 other couples. Aaron and Jay cooked the food and I was the server. I think everyone had a good time and enjoyed the meal. I don't think my dining room table has ever looked that good!
